Falcon Trio Make Regional
All-Star Team
Three varsity Falcons were recently
selected for the U.S. Lacrosse Association regional schoolgirl team, part
of the prestigious Womens Division National Tournament (WDNT) program.
After an intense all-day tryout against other top 9th through 11th grade
players from around Southern California, junior Tori Cameron and
sophomore Becky Trees were chosen for the main team and sophomore
Amanda
Krieger as an alternate. The So Cal squad (and 47 other regional teams)
traveled to Lehigh University in Pennsylvania over Memorial Day weekend
for the annual WDNT high school tournament, staged since 1933.

LCC Upsets Poway for San Diego
CIF Crown (May 26th)
For those of you who don't already know, No. 2 La Costa
Canyon avenged their surprise loss to Poway in last year's CIF final with
a upset victory over the No. 2 Titans in this year's San Diego championship
game over Memorial Day weekend. The final was 9-7 in favor the Encinitas
school, with Sally Coassin scoring three times for the Mavs and Brandi
Jones four goals for the Titans. Overshadowing the final was the fact that
five of the county's best players -- four from Poway and one from LCC --
were missing in action, playing at the WNDT tournament in Pennsylvania
rather than the San Diego section final because both events fell on the
same date.

Falcons Season Ends At La
Jolla (May 22th)
Fifth-ranked Torrey Pines went into their CIF quarterfinal
game at fourth-ranked La Jolla hoping for an upset, but came away
on the short end of a 14-5 score that put an abrupt end to Falcons season.
Sophomore mid Becky Trees -- who lead the Falcons in scoring this season
-- tallied twice for Torrey. But that wasn't enough to offset a potent
Viking offense lead by all-stars Stefi Kalkstein and Taryn Olson, who combined
for six of the La Jolla goals.
Other CIF Quarterfinal Scores:
Poway 19, San Dieguito Academy 3
Coronado 15, Rancho Bernardo 7
La Costa Canyon 15, Westview 7

lead host Torrey Pines to an easy 13-3 win over Bishops School in
the first round of the 2007 CIF San Diego section lacrosse playoffs. The
Falcons flew out to a five-goal halftime lead on their way to a victory
that boosted their overall record to 12 wins and 7 losses. Mara Harry tallied
twice for the home team, while Chelsea Clegg, Tori Cameron and Stephanie
Doyle added single scores.
Other First Round Scores:
LCC 19, Helix 5
San Dieguito 11, Carlsbad 8
Poway 19, Patrick Henry 2

La Jolla 14, Mt Carmel 2
JV Ends Season Undefeated
(May
11th)
The JV Falcons finished the 2007 season undefeated with
a hard-fought 9-9 tie against archrival La Costa Canyon. Down two
goals with less than five minutes to play -- and their perfect season on
the line -- the Torrey girls mustered an emotional rally to stun the home
team. Hoping to achieve at least a tie for the North County Conference,
the Mavericks threw everything they had at the favored Falcons in a brutal
game that saw injuries and yellow cards on both sides. The Falcons played
much of the game with one or zero subs against an LCC team with 24 girls
on the active roster – twice as many as Torrey. Keely O'Brien scored four
goals for Torrey, while Natalie Moffett and Kendra Bills chipped in two
apiece, and Shelby Rothman one. Assists from Shelby (3), Keely, Dorian
O'Leary and Stephanie Cowles. Siboney Montoya had 8 saves in goal.
Varsity finished their season with a respectable
11-7 record. In their final regular season game, the fifth-ranked Falcons
trailed La Costa Canyon by six at the half and ultimately fell 15-6 to
the second-ranked Mavericks. Goals by Tori Cameron (3), Becky Trees (2)
and Mara Harry (1).
Wolverines Edge Falcons (May
2nd)
Westview staged a dramatic second-half comeback
last night to edge Torrey Pines 11-10 in a Coastal North league game at
Wolverine Stadium. The Falcons flew out to a two-goal halftime lead and
seemed to be cruising to their second victory over the Wolverines in six
days. But they couldn't hold it, as the host team rallied in front of a
boisterous Senior Night crowd. Sofia Lama had four goals and Tori Cameron
three in the losing effort. Also scoring for the Falcons were Becky Trees
(2) and Mara Harry.
The Falcons JV also wrestled with the Wolverines
before emerging with a hard-earned 10-8 victory that extended their win
streak to 20 games. In a contest that waged back and forth, Westview jumped
out to an early two-goal advantage before Torrey rallied to take the lead
at half. The Wolverines went ahead again early in the second half before
goals by Mary Beth Shrader and Kendra Bills finally sealed the deal for
the Falcons. Mary Beth finished with four goals, Kendra two. Also scoring
for the Falcons were Keely O'Brien (2), Shelby Rothman and Stephanie Cowles.
Assists from Keely, Shelby, Natalie Moffett and Chelsea Yogerst.
Torrey Splits Last Home Stand
(April
27-28)
The Falcons varsity split their
last homestand of the 2007 season, beating Westview 14-5 before dropping
a 16-5 decision to Coronado at Falcon Stadium.
Tori Cameron lead the goal rush
against Westview with four scores, followed by Mara Harry (3), Becky
Trees (4), Sofia Lama, Chelsea Clegg and Sheridan Edwards. Aissts from
Tori (2), Sofia (2), Sheridan (2), Becky, Mara and Linda Rassenti. Jenny
Franks had six saves for the Falcons.
Coronado breezed into town
as the No. 3 team in both San Diego and Southern California and left with
a resounding win over Torrey. The Islanders sprinted to an 8-1 halftime
lead and never looked back. Becky notched five points off four goals and
one assist, while Tori had a goal and assist, and Mara a single assist,
for the Falcons.
JV Falcons Keep Their Streak
Alive (April 27-28)
The Torrey JV girls ran their win
streak to 19 straight games with convincing weekend wins over Westview
and Coronado. The younger Falcons best the Wolverines 12-2 in a
long anticipated rematch of the Surf Sun & Stix tournament semifinal
that went toovertime. Goals by Natalie Moffett (4), Mary Beth Shrader (3),
Keely O'Brien (2), Stephanie Cowles and Shelby Rothman. Assists by Keely
(4), Cowles and Chelsea Yogerst.
Less than 24 hours later, the JV downed another traditional
rival when they beat Coronado 16-4. Ten different Falcons found
the back of the net including Kendra Bills (3), Keely (3), Shelby R. (2),
Mary Beth (2), Julie Westover, Dorian O'Leary, Shelby Brown, Natalie, Cowles,
and Julia Colley. Julie (3), Mary Beth (2), Natalie, Julia, Cowles, Shelby
R. and Chelsea also chalked up assists.
Falcons Have Good Trip to
Carlsbad (April 25th)
Torrey Pines continued its winning ways with a 10-2 win
over Carlsbad last night, the Falcons first road game in more than
a month. Torrey sprinted out to a five-goal halftime lead enroute to victory.
Linda Rassenti scored three goals for the Falcons, followed by Stephanie
Doyle (2), Sofia Lama, Chelsea Clegg, Ashley McClanahan, Sheridan Edwards
and Annelysse Eggold. (Check out the "News & Links" page for the
North County Times report on the Torrey-Carlsbad game)
The Falcon JV ran their win streak to 17 games
with a convincing 10-0 win over their Carlsbad counterparts. Mary Beth
Shrader had a break-out game with seven goals, while Natalie Moffett notched
three scores. Assists by Natalie, Mary Beth and Shelby Rothman. Siboney
Montoya had nine saves in goal, earning her third shutout of the season.
Falcons Rebound Against Bishops
(April
21st)
What a different 18 hours can make -- playing under blue
skies on a dry field, the Torrey Pines varsity defeated Bishops School
8-6 on Saturday afternoon to run their overall record to 9-4. Sophomore
Becky Trees pumped in five points off two goals and three assists, while
senior Sofia Lama tallied three points from a goal and two assists. Other
goals from Tori Cameron, Mara Harry, Amanda Krieger, Chelsea Clegg and
Stephanie Doyle. Jenny Franks had nine saves in goal.
Over on the junior varsity side, the Falcons beat
Bishops 18-6. Goals from Dorian O'Leary (4), Natalie Moffett (3), Sheridan
Edwards (2), Stephanie Cowles (2), Bianca Liu (2), Kendra Bills (2), Keely
O'Brien, Shelby Rothman and Arden Madsen. Assists from all kinds of players
including Dorian, Sheridan, Shelby R, Kendra, Bianca, Keely and Chelsea
Yogerst. The victory gives the younger Falcons 16 wins overall -- more
wins in a single season than any previous Torrey JV team.
Mavs Storm Past Torrey (April
20th)
No. 3 ranked La Costa Canyon breezed into Falcon
Stadium with the storm yesterday afternoon and left with a decisive 13-2
victory over the No. 5 ranked Falcons. Sofia Lama and Becky Trees scored
for the home team, but it wasn't enough to offset a Maverick attack that
ran up a 7-2 halftime lead and outscored Torrey six-nothing in the second
half. Tara Arolla and Amanda Schutte had three goals apiece for LCC.
JV Falcons Win Battle of the
Undefeated (April 20th)
The last two undefeated junior varsity teams left
in San Diego County -- Torrey Pines and LCC -- squared off before the varsity
contest, the Falcons emerging with a hard-earned 8-5 victory over their
archrivals from up the coast. The Mavs scored first and dominated the early
action, but Torrey responded with goals by Natalie Moffett, Shelby Rothman
and Mary Beth Shrader (off a Kendra Bills assist) to grab the lead. Natalie
scooped up a loose ball in front of the LCC goal for another score and
Sheridan Edwards tallied (off a pass from Shelby R) for a 5-2 intermission
lead. The Falcons extended their lead to 8-3 on second half goals by Mary
Beth, Natalie and freshman Chelsea Yogerst. Torrey keeper Siboney Montoya
and the defense (Biancu Liu, Arden Madsen and Anna Esquibel) were also
up to the challenge, holding the Mavs JV to their lowest points total of
the season.
Torrey Repels British Invasion (April
5th)
Eight different Falcon players found the back of the
as Torrey Pines defeated visiting Stowe School (England) 12-4 last
night at Falcon Stadium. Tori Cameron led the Torrey goal rush with three
scores, followed by Mara Harry (2), Becky Trees (2), Christi Barwick, Stephanie
Doyle, Annelysse Eggold, Chelsea Clegg and Linda Rassenti.
Falcons Spear Lancers
(April 4)
The Torrey Pines varsity girls
pushed their record to 7-3 overall with a lowkey 11-5 win over Carlsbad
yesterday. Tori Cameron and Becky Trees led the scoring with four goals
each, followed by Sofia Lama (2) and Annelysse Eggold. Sofia also had an
assist for the Falcons and keeper Jenny Franks registered two saves.
The JV Falcons kept their
undefeated streak alive with a 13-0 win over the visting Lancers. Eight
different Torey players scored including Keely O'Brien (3), Natalie Moffit
(2), Sheridan Edwards (2), Mary Beth Shrader (2), Kendra Bills, Arden Madsen,
Stephanie Cowles and Chelsea Yogerst. Assists from Shelby Rothman (2),
Chelsea (2), Natalie, Sheridan, Keely and Dorian. Keeper Siboney Montoya
and the Falcon defense had their second shutout of the season.
Falcons Nearly Knock Off No.
1 Poway (April
2)
Torrey Pines nearly pulled off the upset of the season
on Monday night before losing 10-9 to number-one ranked Poway. Down
by several goals at halftime and seemingly out of the game, the Falcons
staged an incredible second half comeback that saw them twice pull within
one goal before the Titans were able to run out the clock. Poway's speed
and pinpoint passing (especially on the fast break) proved the difference
in the game. Becky Trees and Tori Cameron scored three goals each for Torrey,
while Sofia Lama chipped in two and Stephanie Doyle one. Keeper Jenny Franks
and the Falcon defense also had a great game, holding Poway to their lowest
points total of the season. (Check out the "News & Links" page for
the Westside Lax report on the Torrey-Poway game)
Over on the JV side, the Falcons remained undefeated
with a 12-8 win over Poway's junior varisty "A" team. Coming off their
win at the Surf, Sun & Stix tourney on Saturday, the Torrey girls raced
to a 9-2 halftime lead before the fatigue of playing seven games in three
days finally caught up with them. Goals by Mary Beth Shrader (3), Natalie
Moffit (3), Keely O'Brien (2), Sheridan Edwards (2), Stephanie Cowles and
Kendra Bills. Natalie also had four assists.
JV Falcons Take Surf, Sun
& Stix Crown (March 31)
The Torrey Pines JV beat Orange
County powerhouse Foothill 14-4 on Saturday to take the championship of
the 2007 Surf, Sun & Stix Invitational Tournament at Westview
High School. Playing six games in ten hours -- sometimes without a single
sub -- the Falcons relied on a combination of skill and incredible stamina
to capture San Diego's only JV lacrosse tourney.
Torrey breezed through pool play
with easy wins over Patrick Henry (15-1), Corona Del Mar (16-2) and La
Jolla (12-1), before beating a scrappy Bishop's team 11-3 in the
quaterfinals. Exhausted and reduced to one substitute, the Falcons quickly
fell behind host team Westview in the semi-final. Down 6-3 at halftime
and seemingly on their way to defeat, the girls held the Wolverines scoreless
in the second half and punched in three goals of their own to tie the game.
Westview scored two quick goals in overtime and once again it looked like
the Falcons were doomed. But their stamina and determination kicked in
as Torrey scored five straight goals en route to an 11-8 win and a date
with Foothill in the championship game.
We're still checking, but we believe
this is the first time that Torrey has won the JV portion of the Surf,
Sun & Stix. The varsity captured the title in 2005.

Falcons Slip Past Francis
Parker in OT (March
28)
Proving that computer rankings can sometimes be right
on, fifth ranked Torrey Pines slipped past seventh ranked Francis Parker
7-6 in overtime on a free position score by Tori Cameron. Sofia Lama had
her second straight hat-trick for the Falcons, while Alexa Golden notched
two goals in a game that upped the varsity's record to six wins and two
losses overall (full San Diego rankings below).
The Lancers kept the JV game close in the early
going with aggressive checking and great defense. But Torrey's high-powered
offense eventually prevailed, building a five-goal halftime lead on their
way to an 11-2 victory. Goals by Keeley O'Brien (2), Natalie Moffet (2),
Mary Beth Shrader (2), Kendra Bills, Dorian O'Leary, Julia Colley, Sheridan
Edwards and Shelby Rothman; assists by Chelsea Yogerst (3), Kendra, Natalie,
Mary Beth and Dorian.
Torrey Takes Down Fallbrook
(March
26)
The varsity Falcons beat Fallbrook 11-2 behind
a hat-trick from Sofia Lama. The Warriors kept it close until about midway
through the first half, when Torrey exploded for six straight goals and
a commanding halftime lead.
Torrey's JV remained undefeated with a 13-0
victory over their north county opponents, first shutout of the season
for keeper Siboney Montoya and the Falcon defense. Goals from Stephanie
Cowles (3), Shelby Rothman (3), Julia Colley (2), Mary Beth Shrader (2),
Keely O'Brien, Dorian O'Leary, Natalie Moffit. Assists from Shelby R, Sheridan
and Arden.
Vikings Storm Past Torrey(March
22)
Playing after a violent thunder and lightning storm that
brought a premature end to the JV game, the Torrey Pines varsity dropped
a 10-7 decision to La Jolla at soggy Viking Stadium. Tori Cameron
(2), Sofia Lama (2) Becky Trees (2) and Stephanie Doyle scored for the
Falcons, but that wasn't enough to offset a Viking attack led by UC Berkeley
bound midfielder Taryn Olson.
The JV Falcons flew out of La Jolla with an 11-2
win in a game that was stopped (because of lightning) around five minutes
into the second half. Torrey exploded for five straight goals midway through
the first half to break the game wide open. Scores from Natalie Moffit
(3), Shelby Rothman (2), Kendra Bills (2), Sheridan Edwards, Mary Beth
Shrader, Dorian O'Leary and Keely O'Brien; assists from Chelsea Yogerst,
Stephanie Cowles, Julie Westover, Keely and Dorian.
Falcons Down Valley Center
in Home Opener (March
19)
Playing on their home turf for the first time this season,
the Torrey Pines varsity girls beat Valley Center 11-5 in a Monday
night contest at Falcon Stadium. Details to come.
The JV Falcons also won their home opener, 15-1
over the Lady Jaguars. Eleven different players found the back of the net
including Mary Beth Shrader (3), Dorian O'Leary (2), Chelsea Yogerst (2),
Natalie Moffit, Kendra Bills, Sheridan Edwards, Shelby Rothman, defenders
Arden Madsen and Anna Esquibel, and first-ever high school goals by freshmen
Stephanie Cowles and Shelby Brown.
Varsity Splits Bay Area Doubleheader(March
17)
The Torrey Pines varsity girls split their St Patrick's
Day doubleheader in the Bay Area, dropping a 10-5 morning decision to San
Francisco's St Ignatius Prep (ranked 4th in the Western U.S.) and
beating 18th ranked Menlo School 12-6 in an afternoon contest down
the peninsula. Stephanie Doyle (2), Becky Trees (2), Chelsea Clegg and
Tori Cameron scored goals vs. St Ignatius. Becky (3), Tori (3), Stephanie
(2), Mara Harry (2), Chelsea and Brita Bookser scored in the Menlo game.

last night, a 13-5 victory on the road at Mt Carmel. Leading the
goal rush were Mara Harry (3), Tori Cameron (3), Becky Trees (3), Sofia
Lama (2) and Chelsea Clegg (2). Sofia and Annalysse Eggold had three assists
each.
The JV Falcons cruised to a 12-4 victory over their
Route 56 rivals. Goals by nine different players -- Natalie Moffett (2)
Dorian O'Leary (2), Shelby Rothman (2), Chelsea Yogerst, Kendra Bills,
Keely O'Brien, Julia Colley, Sheridan Edwards and Arden Madsen. Assists
by Natalie (3), Chelsea (2), Shelby R (2), Sheridan, Keely and Stephanie
Cowles.
Torrey Tops RB in Season Opener
(March
12)
Torrey Pines kicked off the 2007 varsity season with
a convincing 10-4 win over Rancho Bernardo yesterday (March 12).
We're still waiting for details on scoring etc, but it was the Falcons'
fifth win over the Broncos in their last seven games against one another.
Goals by Tori Cameron (3), Becky Trees (3), Stephanie Doyle (2) and Sofia
Lama (2); Alexa Golden notched two assists. Keeper Jenny Franks had 9 saves
vs. RB.
Playing earlier in the day in 90 degree heat, the JV
Falcons also started the new season on a winning note, with a 13-3
win over RB. Eight different Torrey players scored including Keely O'Brien
who picked up a hat-trick (3). Other goals came from Natalie Moffett (2),
Dorian O'Leary (2), Julia Colley (2), Sheridan Edwards, Kendra Bills, Shelby
Rothman and Chelsea Yogerst. Assists by Natalie (3), Sheridan, Kendra and
Chelsea. Keeper Siboney Montoya and the defense also had a good game, limiting
the Broncos to just six shots on goal.
JV Falcons Fly Past Ravens
(March
7)
In what is believed to be the first
girls lacrosse game of any kind between Torrey Pines and sister school
Canyon
Crest, the JV Falcons beat their Raven counterparts 8-4 in a Wednesday
afternoon scrimmage at CCA. Among those who scored for Torrey were Julia
Colley, Sheridan Edwards, Shelby Rothman, Natalie Moffett and Chelsea Yogerst
(if we missed anyone please let us know because nobody kept an official
scorebook for this game).
The 2007 regular season game schedule is not posted
on the "Schedule" section of this website, although we do expect a few
changes here and there as the season progresses. Bus times will
be added by next week.
